Sunday 28th October 2001 – 8.57am
High tide, with water reaching up the banks. There is a light west-northwest wind ambling across the day, but that’s all. On the water the three boats nearest – two fishers and one yacht – are all preparing to leave their moorings, ready to ride out with the tide as it heads back to sea. The day is bright and clear, the sky blue above me, and the sun is in the sky; lighting up the bands of cloud and Black Combe.
