Wednesday 31st January 2001 – 8.50am
Calm and cold. Almost no wind, and the water seems colourless – only the mooring buoys seem to stand out. The water is way down and on the banks all the beached boats lie bow to stern, north to south in neat rows, with their being no wind to turn them out of the tide’s pull and push.
