Saturday 1st September 2001 – 9.43am
The tide is broiling up from under the bridge as it pushes up the Channel towards North Scale: the space slowly filling to the brim with water. Black Combe is standing tall today, dark under cloud but still a large demanding presence. There’s a west-northwest wind fluttering in gently today, and a warm sun adding heat and colour to the day, as the morning sits quiet and calm before me.
