Sunday 20th May 2001 – 9.21am
A calm hot day, which is surely going to build on this good start. On the water, high tide and activity. South of the bridge I can see three of the larger fishers heading out, the last just ducking under the bridge before heading out to sea. In front of me two smaller fishers and one of the sailing boats are making preparations, but with no wind in the air its going to be a day of drifting rather than sailing. Still out it goes, circling, before the bridge comes up, the first time I’ve seen this year; Walney Bridge slowly lifting up against its weight, the cars stopped and the drivers coming out to watch as the sail boat slowly motors through.
