Thursday 5th July 2001 – 8.33am
A bright day, with Black Combe in the distance rising up out of the haze, and all else clear and visible. There is a fresh southeast wind blowing in, keeping it all cool. After the heatwave of yesterday afternoon this will be welcome. On the water it’s half-tide with the gulls lazily walking the shoreline for food. In Vickerstown they are nesting in chimneys, screeching loudly, waking everyone up and behaving aggressively to all-comers.
