Tuesday 21st August 2001 – 8.34am
A strong south wind today blowing in hard across the bridge, causing me to sway and all the pedestrians to grip their skirts and coats and press on through the wind. The Channel is almost completely drained with nearly all the boats lying upended. The blue houseboat lies sideways on and it seems as if I can almost see down into the galley through her windows. Meanwhile, Black Combe stands away: a strong shaded presence.
