Tuesday 2nd October 2001 – 8.33am
The wind has moved around to the prevailing southwest this morning, and is racing in from the sea, strong and insistent. On the water its half-tide with the northern end of the Channel bed bare and exposed, its contours showing as the water surrounds the levels. The number of boats on the water seems to be receding now, the season drawing to a close for all the fair-weather sailors.
