Monday 1st October 2001 – 8.33am
The year three-quarters through this morning. Things move so fast and are gone so quickly. There is a strong southwest wind here today, shouldering me from behind, insistently and rudely. The boats are torn between its strength and the calm resolution of the tide, and so veer between the two. Out to sea there are patches of light, like rips across the cloud, but otherwise the day is overcast and rain threatens.
