Thursday 22nd November 2001 8.55am
Wind very strong today, veering between northwest and north-northwest, and pushing the boats around confusedly upon their moorings, while sending dark waves across the Channel’s surface. Standing here on the bridge, the day is cold and I feel buffeted by the air. Black Combe stands clear, but mainly in shadow, the sun just managing to cut through and light up the side of the Whicham Valley.
