Saturday 15th December 2001 10.30am
High tide, the surface smooth and glassy, with the movement underneath shown only by ripples and snags on the surface as the tide moves on up, underneath. The sky is a weave of strips of cloud that cover the sky, dimming the day, but still light gets in from somewhere. Black Combe sits quietly in the view - shadowed – but at its foot, rising out of the Duddon, a band of thick fog is just visible beyond Roanhead.
