Saturday 7th April 2001 – 9.58am
High tide. Everything out here under rain, methodical rain, which will fall all day. Surprisingly, Black Combe is still visible, so must be within the same cloud as all of us here. This morning a foot and mouth mat has appeared, blue and green, bolted to the landward side of the bridge approach. The crisis has been on for six weeks and now we get a mat? Even the Town Library has had one for a few weeks, books obviously being a dangerous disease carrier.
