Friday 8th June 2001 – 7.56am
It’s shaping up to be a beautiful day – the high winds of last night have subsided slightly, but the west-north-west wind is still fresh and with strength. We’re almost at low tide, but perhaps some water is still escaping out the Channel, though it won’t get too far; the tide will be turning again soon. Down by the Bridge on Walney side, a man is walking his boat through the shallow water, leading her like a horse, and steering her around submerged obstacles in the water. He looks none too happy, so perhaps he has engine trouble.
