Friday 17th August 2001 – 8.42am
A bright warm day, with a light southwest wind and the sun heating the day already. Perhaps this isn’t really a typical English August day, though it is what we all imagine such a day should be like. The tide is still pushing up the Channel, the marker buoys and the boats trying to pull it back as it rises and making pinch marks in the surface as the water trails past them. Away, Black Combe is clear and bright.
