Saturday 18th August 2001 – 8.24am
There’s a light wind blowing in from the southeast today, one Channelside flag lifting and flying nicely, the others still asleep. The water below is flat and is all surface – its steel top almost convincing me there is no depth underneath, despite my better judgement. The only place I can see any depth is against the shore where submerged bank shows through the shallow water, along with a sunken yellow road sign, its shape and colour peering out ghostly but with its words too far away to be legible.
