Saturday 25th August 2001 – 9.42am
An overcast day, here at least. Above is a sheet of flat grey sky. Away though the Lakes have fluffy clouds and bright sunshine, and the Whicham Valley is lit up in bright sunlight. On the Walney slip there are fishing boats queuing for launch; each one eventually coming out into the Channel and powering south under the bridge and toward the sea, leaving only churned water in their wake.
