Thick high cloud to the east today, blocking out the sun and turning
Black Combe into a charcoal mass; its contours hidden in the shadow,
even as it sits high and clear in the view. There is almost no wind,
perhaps just a tiny occasional flutter from the east. In the Channel,
all but a few of the boats are stranded on the Channel sides or aground
and reflected in the shallow water, though the tide is beginning to
turn and move back in.
