Sunday 7th October 2001 – 9.19am
Today’s strong southerly has less power to it than for most of past week. There has been a full week now of constant strong southerlies, and next week looks the same: gales are predicted later. Autumn rolls in and takes hold. The tide is fairly low and the water brown and murky - the wind helping to dredge up mud from the bottom and cloud the Channel. Away, Black Combe is just visible, a physical link between the ground and overhanging cloud.
