Monday 8th October 2001 – 8.35am
New strong weather, which came in last night. The wind is blowing hard and insistently from the west-southwest, making travel back out to Walney slow progress. It’s half-tide, and the boats turn resignedly to face the Walney side of the Channel. The wind is forcing huge swathes of thick grey cloud over at an incredible rate, with only Black Combe seeming to stand firm against this push.
