Tuesday 9th October 2001 – 8.41am
A west-northwest wind sweeping in across the receding water, blowing hard and sending shadowed ripples across the surface. The new wind has broken up the clouds too, confusing them like sheep. The sun is hidden, but at least visible on the clouds’ tops, adding some white and blue into the day. Black Combe meanwhile, is drawing breath before being submerged by an enormous approaching cloudbank.
