Friday 19th October 2001 – 8.47am
The tide is at the very base of the Channel this morning – definitely its lowest marker. It looks as if you could wade across easily. All the shellfish are exposed, along with the numerous shopping trolleys and junk thrown in and abandoned. Gulls are circling the water aimlessly: it’s a quiet day out there. There’s a light east wind, but the full cloud is keeping out the sun and leaving the day in shade.
